Huiping Xu, M.D.

Medical Residency Candidate

As a part of Chinese medicine, Chinese Qigong is a very interesting topic. The essence of Qigong is to train your mind. In the past thousands years, ancient Chinese doctors use Chinese medicine including some special psychiatric training techniques and herb to treat patients. They clearly understand, the mind and the body are closely related and work together. So that, in order to be healthy physically, people have to be healthy psychologically. In my understand, healthy mind is not only part of definition of health but also the premise of health. It is also a mystery because people do not understand those diseases very well, they are affected by many reasons- genetics, society, culture, environment etc. To me, it is very interesting and challenging.

In this world, so many people are suffering from psychiatric problems, which deeply affect their daily life. For this reason, I would like to help whose who are suffering, struggling from all kinds of psychiatric problems. I believe I will derive satisfaction from treating them. Psychiatry holds a common approach to patient making them complementary and synergistic. I know that a career in psychiatry will require that I summon all of my resources, but I have the commitment and stamina to do it all. It will provide me with the best opportunity to become a productive member of society while making use of my intellectual talents in a career that I expect to be constantly challenging and fulfilling.
